Communicating through design

I’ve had a passion and talent for all things art and design since I was a child. From pencil, to pixels, to processes, I’m always seeking to improve on ideas. I studied fine art and have an extensive background in advertising and visual communication of all types. Based in Virginia Beach, VA, I have over 20 years experience in the graphic design industry. I have grown with production and design trends, but sought to play a bigger role in the overall process. Witnessing the trajectory of technology in the design industry first hand is what led me to the discipline of UX. I’m also drawn to the aspect of improving the experience of products by going directly to the source—the user.
Most recently, I’ve completed an immersive UX Design Career Track bootcamp with Springboard. My portfolio demonstrates my ability to produce cohesive and immersive experiences to optimize the user’s experience for the overall benefit of startups or established enterprises.

To ensure the communication aspect of UX design stayed at the forefront of my education, I’ve gained insights from several books alongside the curriculum. My favorites include:

In my spare time, I’m a poker and chess enthusiast. This helps to sharpen my skills as a strategic thinker. I thrive to understand the way people think and act on a deeper level. I apply many of these skills, with empathy, to gain insights to produce the best outcomes.

I also produce fine-art, videography and photography as well. I consider myself a curator with an eye for aesthetics. Always seeking the “why” in everyday situations. As the go-between of the user and shareholders, I use proven methodologies to produce results far beyond what individual parties involved could imagine. Testing early and often allows the focus to stay on designing optimum solutions for the right problems.

I view a career in UX as the perfect opportunity to get out of my comfort zone to expand my knowledge and ability to innovate. Being able to encompass interpersonal skills, strategy and psychology to solve complex problems is extremely valuable to me.
